
Tragedy struck on Florida's Turnpike near Boynton Beach when a rollover crash involving an SUV and a truck resulted in one fatality and six injuries. NBC Miami reported that the accident occurred yesterday and prompted an emergency response from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.
Upon their arrival at the northbound Turnpike, around Mile Marker 90, seven people were found embroiled in the wreckage. According to Fire Rescue officials, pronounced dead at the scene one person was, and six were transported to the hospital as trauma alerts. The NBC Miami article stated that "several patients" were found by crews amidst the severely damaged vehicles.
The WPBF report detailed that extrication was required for some individuals from the vehicles on the scene. Of the six injured, one was transported by Trauma Hawk and the rest by ground to Delray Beach Medical Center, the nearest Level 1 trauma center.
All lanes of the Turnpike were eventually reopened by the afternoon, causing disruption for hours and congesting southbound lanes, reported with the congestion also having affected southbound lanes, WPBF
The Florida Highway Patrol has since taken over the investigation, seeking to unravel the events leading up to the devastating crash. Further information regarding the cause of the accident and the conditions of the hospitalized victims has not been disclosed at this time.
