Earlier Wednesday in Gresham, a separate shooting left a 26-year-old woman fatally wounded after her car was struck and slammed into a van, ABC7 Chicago reported. That report noted a baby in the back seat was not hurt, and investigators placed more than 50 evidence markers at that scene.

“What's the purpose of shooting at a car when you know there's a child in the car? That doesn't make any sense,” said Kirk Bell, the godfather of the woman killed, in an interview with ABC7 Chicago. Area detectives were reported to be investigating both scenes, and no arrests had been announced as of late Wednesday. Police asked anyone with video or information to contact investigators.
