A post-race drive out of the Marina turned chaotic last Saturday when dozens of bicyclists surrounded a car leaving the Red Bull Showrun, pounding on the vehicle and leaving it visibly damaged. A passenger inside says the group groped a friend, tossed a drink, spat in his face and punched another person while shattering windows and leaving a shoeprint on the car. Everyone inside walked away physically unharmed, but they say they were badly rattled.

One passenger, identified as Auerbach, told ABC7 that "I still am a little shook up about it," adding that he and his friends felt lucky the incident did not end worse. According to the outlet, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Jefferson Street for reports of battery and vandalism, and the San Francisco Police Department said the investigation remains open with no arrests so far. Auerbach's mother also reached out to the mayor's office, which she said put her in touch with police, ABC7 reported.

Red Bull Showrun Pulls Crowds Into the Marina

The confrontation unfolded as the Red Bull Showrun, described as a one-day Formula 1 demonstration, drew show cars and packed sidewalks to Marina Boulevard last Saturday, according to a transit advisory from the SFMTA. The Red Bull event page lists a fan zone and exhibition runs along Marina Boulevard that afternoon. City and event personnel were on hand to manage traffic and crowds, although officials have not publicly linked the ride-out itself to the Showrun.

Residents See a Disturbing Trend

What happened in the Marina fits an unsettling pattern of big, loosely organized rider groups tipping into violence. KTVU reported a January incident near Fisherman's Wharf in which a man who asked bicyclists to slow down was beaten and robbed. In February, ABC7 detailed a Santa Clara case where a driver suffered broken ribs after a mob of bicyclists swarmed his car. Many of these episodes have been captured on social media, heightening anxiety among both neighbors and law enforcement about so-called "ride-out" gatherings that spiral into attacks.

Police Ask Public for Tips

San Francisco police say the case is still very much active and are urging anyone with information to contact investigators. Tipsters can call the department's anonymous line at 415-575-4444 or text TIP411 with the keyword "SFPD," according to the San Francisco Police Department. Officials are also asking anyone who recorded video or snapped photos of Saturday's incident to share that footage with detectives. No arrests have been announced as the investigation continues.
