
A quiet stretch of Merrillville's 7600 block of Van Buren Street turned into an active crime scene Friday morning after a man and a woman were found dead inside a home in what police say appears to be a murder-suicide.
Merrillville police provide initial details
According to Yahoo, officers were dispatched to the residence around 8:15 a.m. on a report of an assault with a firearm. When they arrived, they discovered the man and woman deceased inside the home. Investigators said in an initial statement that the deaths appear to be a murder-suicide and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
What investigators say and local response
No names have been released, and police have not publicly discussed a possible motive as detectives continue to process the scene and gather evidence. Yahoo reported that SkyCam9 footage showed the driveway taped off and a heavy police presence outside the home as officers worked the case.
