A 60-year-old man from Delray Beach, tied to the Pagan Outlaw motorcycle gang, was detained in the Florida Keys after officials discovered he was the subject of outstanding warrants for drug and firearms offenses. CBS12 reported that the man, John Ray Melvin, was apprehended following a brief pursuit with Monroe County deputies on Friday near Mile Marker 58 on U.S. 1.
Attempts by deputies to pull over a pack of riders quickly escalated when only one motorcyclist complied—receiving a citation for operating on a suspended license—while the remaining bikers, including Melvin, opted to suddenly speed off. The confrontation came to a head on Kyle Avenue, where the group had blocked the road and a public bike path. It was here that a records check unveiled Melvin's felony warrants for possession of cocaine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to CBS12.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office underscored their stance on gang-related crime, with Sheriff Rick Ramsay stating, "The Sheriff’s Office will continue to make gang-related crime a priority, and I will not allow such groups to interfere in the lives of peaceful and law-abiding citizens." The details of Melvin's arrest and the repercussions of the roadblock were further shared in a news release quoted by Local10.
After bring taken into custody, Melvin's motorcycle was towed and he was booked into jail. The specifics regarding his bond were not immediately released.
