Fairfield DUI Crash Slams Car Into Two-Story Home, Child Miraculously Unhurt

A Fairfield neighborhood had a terrifying wake-up call last Saturday when a speeding car tore through a backyard fence and into the rear of a two-story home, sending debris flying inside and striking a child who, remarkably, was later found to be uninjured. First responders arrived at the 5300 block of Fields Court to find the vehicle trapped beneath structural rubble and the back wall of the home visibly damaged. The driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

What Happened

Dispatchers first got word of trouble when callers reported a vehicle racing eastbound on Hancock Drive at a high rate of speed before blasting through a backyard fence and into the rear of the two-story residence. When crews arrived, they found the car wedged beneath debris and clear structural damage to the back of the house. Inside, a child had been struck by falling debris but, after assessment, was determined to be uninjured.

The driver, later identified as 23-year-old Matthew Salagubang, was placed under arrest, according to the Fairfield Fire Department's Facebook post.

Emergency Response and Damage

Fairfield Fire personnel worked alongside police to extricate both the child and the driver from the wreckage and stabilize the scene. Medics evaluated the child at the home, while the adult driver was transported to a local hospital for further care.

Crews documented the damage and assessed the structural stability of the house, while officers blocked the street and continued their on-scene investigation.

Legal Status

Authorities say Salagubang was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, though it was not immediately clear whether formal charges had been filed. Evidence collection and a crash reconstruction are underway as investigators piece together what led up to the collision.

If prosecutors decide to move forward, the case would be handled by the Solano County District Attorney's Office for potential filing.
