A shooting involving police occurred early this morning in Fall River, Massachusetts, leaving one suspect dead and two police officers injured. According to NBC Boston, the incident happened around 12:13 a.m. after police responded to a report of an armed individual on Linden Street near Walnut Street.

Prosecutors said officers attempted to frisk the suspect, identified as 40-year-old Nigel Vaughn of Fall River, when he resisted and produced a modified handgun, firing at officers. Police returned fire during the confrontation.

Two officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries. One was struck in the elbow, and another was hit in a bullet-resistant vest. Officials with the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said all three officers involved were treated at a hospital and later released.

Boston 25 News reported that the shooting occurred outside 309 Linden Street near a dark-colored SUV. Vaughn was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators recovered a Glock firearm near Vaughn that had an aftermarket modification, commonly referred to as a switch, which can enable fully automatic fire. The Massachusetts State Police assisted with the response and investigation, alongside detectives from the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and crime scene investigators.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
