Following a deputy-involved shooting in South Miami-Dade, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is leading an investigation into the incident which transpired early Tuesday morning, December 2, 2025. At roughly 5:30 a.m., deputies dispatched by the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office Internet Crimes Against Children unit, with backup from the Special Response Team, arrived at a home on SW 155 Street and SW 102 Place to serve a warrant, details of which have been sourced from Miami-Dade County's official release.
Upon announcing themselves without response and ultimately breaching the entryway, two adults and a child were secured from the premises, with no injuries reported to them or any deputies. The confrontation took a fatal turn when an adult male, armed and inside, was shot by deputies after displaying a firearm. Then another male found in the residence was taken into custody, with deputies providing life-saving efforts to the injured man before the arrival of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, who declared him deceased at the scene.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, as part of an initiative to foster transparency and public trust, has released a critical incident video shedding light on the events of that morning. Sheriff's commitment to accountability was echoed in a statement obtained by the county's website, "I believe the public has the right to see critical incidents involving law enforcement," emphasizing the objective to "be transparent with our community, to hold ourselves to the highest standards, and to continue working every day to earn and maintain your trust." The footage is accessible on YouTube, providing a sequential look at the events as they occurred.
As part of the investigation, the subjects involved have been identified. The deceased, 21-year-old Christopher Barata, was fatally wounded during the incident. His brother, 25-year-old Cristian Barata, was the male arrested at the scene, now facing charges related to the possession and promotion of sexual performance by a child. While the FDLE's inquiry is ongoing, the release of case details and video footage serves to keep the public informed as the judicial process unfolds.
