Light rain was falling around Miami early Monday as a soggy, windy stretch settled over South Florida. Temperatures near 73 degrees will climb to about 82, but showers, thunderstorms and rough coastal conditions will make for a challenging start to the week.

Northeast winds will run 25 to 29 mph, with gusts up to 39 mph, while rainfall totals will generally stay below an inch, though isolated coastal spots could see 1 to 2 inches.

Wind Advisory Starts Monday

A Wind Advisory takes effect at 11 a.m. Monday and continues through 8 p.m. Tuesday across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, according to the National Weather Service in Miami. Sustained northeast winds of 20 to 25 mph and frequent gusts near 40 mph could blow around unsecured objects, break small tree limbs and make driving difficult for high-profile vehicles.

Rain chances continue Monday night and Tuesday.

Coastal Flooding Threatens Low-Lying Roads

A Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect through 8 p.m. Wednesday for coastal Miami-Dade and Broward counties as strong onshore winds and high tides push water into vulnerable areas. The National Weather Service warns that roads may close and low-lying homes, businesses and infrastructure could be inundated.

Drivers should not go around barricades or attempt to cross water of unknown depth, especially during high tide. Coastal showers could worsen flooding in some locations, even if overall rainfall totals remain modest.

Beach Conditions Stay Dangerous Through Wednesday

A high risk of rip currents is expected along Atlantic beaches through Wednesday evening, making swimming hazardous even for experienced swimmers. Anyone heading near the water should stay close to a lifeguard; people caught in a rip current should float, avoid fighting the current and swim parallel to shore if they can.

Weather Gradually Calms Later This Week

A 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms is forecast Wednesday, when Miami could reach 84 degrees, and winds should ease as the week progresses.
