
A Tuesday night walk across Stevenson Boulevard in Fremont ended in tragedy when a pedestrian was struck by two vehicles and later died at a local hospital, according to police.
In a press release shared via the Fremont Police Department, investigators said the collision happened around 8:32 p.m. on the stretch of Stevenson Boulevard between Sundale Drive and Blacow Road. A Toyota Scion traveling westbound reportedly hit the pedestrian as the person entered the number two lane, sending the victim into the number one lane, where a second vehicle struck them and then left the area without stopping.
Police said the Scion’s driver stayed at the scene, was not injured, and cooperated with investigators. The case is being handled under report number 260210034, according to the department.
Local outlet Patch reported that this marks Fremont’s fourth fatal traffic collision of the year. As noted by Patch, police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
Investigation under way
The Fremont Police Traffic Unit is leading the investigation and says the exact cause of the crash is still under review. Officials said the Alameda County Coroner's Office responded to the hospital to recover the decedent.
Investigators have not yet identified the driver or vehicle that left the scene after the second impact.
