The Marion County Public Health Department’s Substance Use Outreach Services hosted an event on February 6 at 10 East Arts for National Black HIV / AIDS Awareness Day. The event combined HIV testing with arts-based activities, including poetry and music, to engage the community and promote HIV prevention.
According to the Marion County Public Health Department's Post, organizations such as Women in Motion, the Indianapolis Urban League, Gilead, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, and the BU Wellness Network partnered to provide resources and programming. According to the CDC, African Americans have the highest rate of HIV diagnoses, highlighting the importance of such outreach efforts.
Those who missed the event can contact the MCPHD’s Substance Use Outreach Services at 317-221-4618 for testing, education, and support related to HIV and substance use.
