An Indianapolis man's series of violent crimes in 2021 has culminated in a sentence of 106 years in prison. Terri Young-Moses, the man in question, was convicted for murder, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, armed robbery, and criminal confinement following a trial in December last year. His conviction was announced by the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, noting that murder of Dezmond King and a string of other felonies have led to this severe sentencing, reported FOX59.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) first responded to an incident involving Young-Moses on August 8, 2021. Officers found bullet holes in an apartment wall on Sebring Court, and security footage indicated an argument between Young-Moses and his girlfriend, which escalated when he fired shots at her vehicle, striking the apartment, according to details from WTHR. The sequence of crimes continued through November, when Young-Moses committed an armed robbery of a man meeting someone from a dating app and killed Dezmond King later that month, further outlined by a news release.
Security footage from the apartment complex later identified an individual dressed in black, leaving Young-Moses' residence and heading towards the back patio of the apartment where King's body was found. Prosecutors were able to link forensic firearm testing of shell casings found at the crime scenes to a firearm found in Young-Moses' home, where items belonging to the armed robbery victim and Young-Moses' DNA on the gun were also discovered, as noted in an article from WISH-TV.
Reflecting on the harrowing events and the subsequent trial, Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said on FOX59, "The defendant’s escalating and abhorrent conduct had devastating consequences: Mr. King was senselessly taken from his family and loved ones, and the defendant will now spend the rest of his life in prison."
