A Sunday afternoon stabbing at a Gresham home in the 2500 block of NW 4th Street left one person hospitalized with serious injuries and a suspect under arrest, according to police. Officers say the victim’s wounds were severe enough to require hospital care, and the suspect was taken into custody at the scene on assault-related allegations. The address is the same property that was searched by law enforcement in a SWAT operation months earlier, a connection neighbors and investigators are now scrutinizing.
According to OregonLive, emergency dispatch records show officers were called to the home at about 2 p.m. Gresham police spokesperson Adam Wright told the outlet the stabbing victim was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Wright said the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Vinh Nguyen, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon and is currently being held in jail.
SWAT Raid Months Earlier
Less than three months before the stabbing, Multnomah County sheriff’s deputies, detectives and the East Metro SWAT Team served a court-authorized search warrant at the same house in the 2500 block of NW 4th Street. Deputies seized roughly six rifles, a bulletproof vest, cocaine and meth, and booked two people, 49-year-old Tai Nguyen and 76-year-old Craig Larson, in connection with that investigation, according to KPTV. That earlier operation is now part of the timeline detectives are considering as they look into Sunday’s attack.
Charges and Prior Records
Court records reviewed by OregonLive state that Vinh Nguyen told a Gresham officer he bought the weapon used in the incident from his uncle, Tai Nguyen. Those same records show he previously faced gun-possession and cocaine-possession allegations stemming from a May 15, 2025 arrest. Gresham police have not publicly identified the person who was stabbed, and detectives say the investigation remains active while evidence is reviewed and potential charges are evaluated.
Investigation Continues
Gresham police are asking anyone with information about the stabbing to contact detectives, and witnesses who have not yet spoken with investigators are urged to come forward. The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said its November search at the home led to the seizure of weapons and drugs and that the broader investigation could result in additional charges, according to KPTV.
