A quiet Rancho Santa Fe morning turned violent today when a Ferrari careened off a residential road and into a tree, leaving its driver in critical condition and the luxury car crumpled beyond recognition.
The crash happened around 7:30 AM in the 4700 block of La Noria, where emergency crews rushed the injured driver to a nearby hospital. Officials listed the driver in critical condition and have not yet released a name.
Officials Say Speed Was A Factor
The Rancho Santa Fe Fire Department responded to the single-vehicle wreck and told FOX 5 San Diego that the Ferrari was traveling at a high rate of speed before it left the roadway. No other vehicles were involved, authorities said.
Fire crews worked the scene to stabilize the wreckage and treat the driver while investigators began sorting out what led up to the crash. Officials offered no immediate update beyond the initial critical-condition report.
Not The First Ferrari Wreck Here
This is hardly the first time a high-end Italian badge has come to grief in the area. Local coverage has tracked a string of eye-catching Ferrari crashes in Rancho Santa Fe and the greater San Diego area in recent years.
As the San Diego Reader has pointed out, pricey supercars tend to draw extra attention when things go sideways on the twisting roads of North County. Regulars say the narrow, scenic lanes look like a driving ad yet can turn unforgiving very quickly at speed.
Photos Show Heavy Damage
A photo published by FOX 5 San Diego shows a tow truck at the scene, with the Ferrari's front end crushed and contorted. The station’s coverage included a short video that paired shots of the wreckage with reminders to stay within safe speeds and to be aware of how quickly things can go wrong when control is lost.
Crews later cleared the road while investigators remained on-site to piece together the sequence of events leading up to the impact.
Investigation Under Way
Rancho Santa Fe officials said the collision is still under investigation and asked anyone who witnessed the crash or the Ferrari just before it to contact local authorities. No arrests or citations had been announced as of Wednesday, and officials did not provide additional information on the driver’s condition beyond describing it as critical.
This story will be updated if law enforcement releases further details.
