Flour & Thyme, the downtown Phoenix restaurant from chef-owner Ivan Jacobo, has gone dark for now after stubborn plumbing problems forced staff to pull the plug on service and cancel reservations. The plumbing repairs themselves are done, Jacobo says, but the water damage left behind in the Orpheum Lofts space is bad enough that the restaurant needs a major remodel before it can welcome diners again.
As reported by Phoenix New Times, the team quietly started canceling reservations over several weeks before making the call in January to temporarily close the ground-floor dining room. Jacobo tried to keep the mood optimistic, telling the outlet, “But, expect something much nicer when we announce the reopening.”
From Anhelo Star Turn To Cozy Sister Spot
Flour & Thyme opened in late 2024 as a more casual sibling to Jacobo’s tasting-menu restaurant Anhelo, which previously occupied the same Orpheum Lofts address. The restaurant’s listing puts it at 114 W Adams St., Suite C-103, in downtown Phoenix, according to Downtown Phoenix.
Reservations Axed, Diners Left Wondering
Diners first spotted trouble when OpenTable reservations were suddenly canceled and guests showed up to find locked doors on nights they thought they had a table. That pattern is reflected in recent reviews on OpenTable, where confused customers noted last-minute cancellations.
Locals then took the mystery online. A community thread on r/Phoenix collected multiple accounts of nixed reservations and unanswered phone calls, as regulars tried to figure out what had happened to the new downtown spot.
What It Means For Jacobo’s Other Kitchens
Jacobo told Phoenix New Times that the unexpected closure has at least given his team room to lean into service at Anhelo’s busier Scottsdale location while contractors tackle the water damage back downtown. He did not commit to a timeline for Flour & Thyme’s return, saying the reopening date will depend on how the remodel progresses.
