The Brookfield Fire Department took to social media to alert the community that from noon to 8:00 PM on Thursday, critical fire weather conditions are expected to prevail.
The National Weather Service is the source behind the Red Flag Warning, pinpointing a combination of gusty southwest winds that could reach up to 30 mph, an exceedingly low humidity range of 15-25%, and dry vegetation as the culprits behind the heightened fire risk. According to the fire department's post, "any spark can turn into a fast-moving grass or field fire in minutes" when these three elements come together.
With the potential for fires to spread rapidly and uncontrollably, threatening not just the natural landscape but also homes, buildings, and transportation routes, the fire department is urging the community to take this warning seriously. Their message is clear: do not burn on Thursday, avoid activities that could generate sparks, and exercise extreme caution with any equipment capable of producing sparks.
