A southwest Miami-Dade man, identified as Marcus Johnson, 45, has been apprehended following allegations of human trafficking and sexual assault involving a minor, according to law enforcement officials. Johnson was arrested yesterday linked to incidents that date back to January and November of the previous year. His arrest was the result of two separate investigations conducted by the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, as confirmed by authorities today.
One of the reported incidents involved a woman claiming to have been violently assaulted by Johnson after she "refused to engage in sexual activity with others to make him money," as detailed in an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office. The victim recounted being held against her will inside Johnson's vehicle, multiple physical assaults, and a life-threatening episode where she was choked to the point of being unable to breathe. Local deputies also disclosed that Johnson purportedly had knives in his possession during the assault. After escaping the altercation, the woman was able to positively identify Johnson in a photo lineup, as per the Local10 report.
The investigation further exposed Johnson's involvement in a separate case of human trafficking. A 17-year-old victim, described as a runaway at the time of the incident, revealed to the Human Trafficking Task Force that Johnson had provided her with food and shelter initially and then proceeded to sexually assault her. Furthermore, she was coerced into engaging in sexual acts for money, having traveled with Johnson across multiple states, and later, confined at a Motel 6 in Cutler Bay where sex dates were arranged with adult men. In a statement obtained by NBC Miami, the teen disclosed that Johnson would take care of transactions and payments, withholding all money generated from these coerced acts. The extent of his exploitation and control became evident when, upon refusing to participate further, Johnson responded with violence. The victim's ordeals ended with her attempting to jump from a moving vehicle to escape the abuse. The comprehensive NBC Miami report highlights the disturbing nature of the accusations against Johnson.
The arrest of Marcus Johnson occurred as he appeared for a court hearing related to an unrelated case at the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building. Charges against him now include kidnapping with aggravated battery with a weapon, battery by strangulation, battery, human trafficking of a minor, deriving support from prostitution, and unlawful sexual activity with a specified minor. Johnson, currently incarcerated at the Metrowest Detention Center, is being held without bond.
