A late-night drive along U.S. 1 ended in tragedy early Friday when a man and a woman were killed in a two-vehicle rollover crash at U.S. 1 and Southwest 112th Street in southwest Miami-Dade, authorities said. Deputies responded at about midnight, and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue pronounced both drivers dead at the scene.

According to WPLG Local 10, Miami-Dade deputies arrived at the intersection around midnight and found two vehicles involved in the rollover. The station reports that the victims were the drivers of each vehicle, and authorities have not released their names or ages.
U.S. 1 closed between SW 112th and SW 200th
Per a traffic alert from the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, all lanes of U.S. 1 were shut down from Southwest 112th Avenue to Southwest 200th Street/Caribbean Boulevard while crews worked the scene. The sheriff's office urged drivers to steer clear of the area and use alternate routes as investigators processed the crash.
Another deadly wreck on a busy corridor
This crash adds to a grim record on the busy U.S. 1 corridor. In April 2024, a six-vehicle collision in southwest Miami-Dade also killed two drivers, highlighting persistent safety concerns on the route, WSVN reported. Local officials have long warned about high speeds and heavy commuter traffic on stretches of U.S. 1.
Investigation ongoing
Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office traffic homicide detectives are leading the investigation but have released few details so far, according to WPLG Local 10. Authorities did not immediately say whether impairment, speed or other factors played a role in the crash.
