A quiet Sunday morning at a Vallejo hotel turned into a crime scene when a stabbing left one man in critical condition and another in handcuffs, according to police. Officers were called around 10:40 a.m. to a hotel on the 1000 block of Admiral Callaghan Lane, where they found a man suffering from at least one stab wound. The suspect, identified by police as 40-year-old Milwaukee resident Gregory Scott II, was arrested after he stepped out of a hotel room and followed officers’ commands.
What police say
Vallejo police say that while officers were heading to the scene, dispatchers received a call from a man who said he had stabbed someone during an altercation, as reported by CBS Bay Area. When officers arrived, they began first aid on the injured man, who was then transported to a hospital in critical condition, according to police. A perimeter was set up around the hotel, and the suspect ultimately surrendered without incident.
Evidence and arrest
Investigators say they obtained a search warrant for the room and recovered a knife they believe was used in the stabbing. Security-camera footage and witness statements also helped tie the suspect to the attack, according to Bay City News via SFGATE. After a medical evaluation, Scott was booked into the Solano County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
Where it happened
The hotel sits just east of Interstate 80 and south of Auto Mall Parkway on Admiral Callaghan Lane, a commercial strip that has seen other violence in recent years. Last July, the San Francisco Chronicle reported on a fatal shooting on the same street, underscoring ongoing public-safety concerns in the area.
Legal status
Police say Scott is being held on $35,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Solano County Superior Court in Fairfield this morning, CBS Bay Area reports. Prosecutors will review the case before any formal charges are filed, and police say the investigation is still active.
