After an era-spanning presence in American refrigerators, Minute Maid is ending its long-standing tradition of frozen juice concentrates. A stark shift in consumer trends has prompted the Coca-Cola Company, owner of Minute Maid, to phase out these once ubiquitous freezer aisle staples by April 2026, with the remaining inventory to be available until supplies last. According to CBS News, "We are discontinuing our frozen products and exiting the frozen can category in response to shifting consumer preferences," said Coca-Cola in yesterday's statement.
The canned concentrates, which once served as a convenient alternative to fresh-squeezed juice, have fallen out of favor with the public. The trend reflects a larger marketplace shift as pasteurized, ready-to-drink varieties have become the norm over labor-intensive, for preparation frozen juice. Furthermore, the overall juice market has seen a decline, with consumers opting for beverages that offer more than just sweet refreshment, such as energy drinks and protein smoothies. As reported by Food Dive, Minute Maid acknowledges this change, with a company spokesperson noting, "With the juice category growing strongly, we’re focusing on products that better match what our consumers want."
Minute Maid's exit from the frozen concentrate business does not spell an end to their presence in the drink sector. The brand continues to innovate, offering fresh juice options, Zero Sugar lines, and even branching into the alcohol-infused beverage market. The move away from concentrates will allow Coca-Cola to concentrate on more popular and profitable product lines. This strategic pivot comes at a time when industry analysts highlight the advantage Coca-Cola's juice business has gained recently, partially benefiting from the sugar-free variety's success in North America. Despite such gains in market share, the broader juice industry grapples with the challenges of declining consumption rates. Consumers are increasingly gravitating toward functional beverages that promise more than just quenching thirst or providing a sweet taste.
