A weekend morning in Lawndale turned into a crime scene Saturday after an unidentified adult man was found unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso in the 900 block of South Keeler around 8:23 a.m., according to police. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and Area Four detectives have opened a homicide investigation. Authorities have not released the victim’s name or any information about a suspect.
The initial account, reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, said officers found the man on the West Side and confirmed he had been shot several times. As of Saturday, investigators were still working to determine when the shooting happened and what led up to it.
West Side Shooting Trend
The killing comes as violent incidents continue to hit the West Side this winter, with a series of North Lawndale shootings fueling anxiety for residents. A January attack that left three people seriously injured, detailed by CBS Chicago, highlighted the neighborhood’s ongoing public safety concerns.
Neighbors and Investigation
Recent local coverage has tracked the toll this pattern of violence takes on the community. A deadly January shooting on South Pulaski raised many of the same fears now surfacing again in Lawndale. Neighbors say the steady cadence of shootings wears on the area as detectives continue to canvass for witnesses and review any available video.
How to Help Investigators
Area Four detectives are asking anyone with information to come forward. For emergencies, call 9-1-1. Tips, photos, and videos can be submitted anonymously through the Chicago Police Department’s online tip form at the Chicago Police Department, which investigators say can be used to upload potential evidence for review.
