It is a mild, mostly sunny Friday in Nashville, with highs climbing into the low 60s and a steady west breeze helping along the warmup. Enjoy the afternoon while you have it, because clouds will thicken tonight and temperatures will fall toward the low 40s by late evening. Gusts may still reach around 20 mph this afternoon, especially across higher terrain.
Late Friday Night Rain Chance
Light rain is expected to push north into Middle Tennessee late Friday night, mainly after 10 p.m., bringing a 30–50% chance of showers into parts of the region. Most locations should see only light amounts, generally under a quarter inch, but wet roads and brief damp periods are on the table. According to the National Weather Service Nashville, the disturbance is expected to produce mainly light showers overnight.
Small Totals, Some Local Variation
Forecasters say total rainfall through Sunday will be light across most of the mid-state, roughly 0.2–0.5 inches in many spots, although parts of the Northern Cumberland Plateau could see locally higher amounts near or slightly above a half-inch. Widespread flooding is not expected given the modest totals. For more background on this system, see our earlier coverage.
Cooler, Gusty Weekend Turn
After the showers move through, a northwesterly push will bring a much cooler, drier air mass by Sunday, with highs near the mid-40s and northwest winds of 10–15 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph. Lows dip into the 20s early next week, so expect noticeably chillier mornings on Monday and Tuesday and plan to bundle up.
Plan Ahead
Late-night wet roads could slow the Saturday morning commute a bit, so giving yourself a few extra minutes behind the wheel is not a bad idea. Otherwise, take advantage of the pleasant afternoon today, because the mild air will not stick around into Sunday.
