Oklahoma State Senator Casey Murdock has introduced Senate Bill 1890, which proposes replacing the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) with a new oversight body, the Oklahoma Athletics and Activities Commission. The bill seeks to change rules affecting student athletes, including eliminating the mandatory one-year waiting period for students transferring between school districts, as per the Oklahoma Senate release.
The proposed commission would include the state superintendent of public instruction, parents, school administrators, and athletic directors, appointed by the governor, Senate president pro tempore, and House speaker.
SB 1890 is currently awaiting review by the Senate Education Committee. If passed, the bill would alter how extracurricular activities, including sports, are governed in Oklahoma schools.
