This morning at Phoenix Sky Harbor, it’s mostly cloudy and 55°F, with light rain lingering after overnight showers. Roads may be wet and windy, so bring in or secure outdoor furniture before stronger winds hit on Wednesday.
Morning Showers And Small Totals
A narrow band of rain moved through early Tuesday, leaving behind localized amounts around a tenth to a quarter of an inch. Showers should taper through the morning, with only a few spotty sprinkles lingering into the afternoon. The overnight chance of precipitation was about 60%, dropping into the teens during the day, according to the National Weather Service.
Afternoon Winds Pick Up
Winds today will generally run 5 to 10 mph out of the west-southwest, with gusts into the 20s later this afternoon across the Valley. A faster-moving system will skim the region Wednesday, bringing the breeziest conditions of the week and periods of gusty, blustery weather, particularly over higher terrain. Brief wind-driven reductions in visibility are possible on exposed roads, and bicyclists and drivers of high-profile vehicles should expect a choppy commute.
Travel And Airport Notes
The quick-moving showers can knock down visibility and make ramps slick, so build in some extra time for the morning drive and ease off the gas on wet pavement. Sky Harbor operations have been mostly normal, but gusty winds and fast-moving showers can still trigger short delays, so check with your airline or the airport if you are flying today. If you have outdoor events planned, consider shifting them indoors this morning and again on Wednesday morning.
Looking Ahead
Temperatures dip midweek, with Wednesday mornings starting in the mid to upper 40s and highs only reaching the low 60s, before a dry, warm rebound sends highs back toward the upper 70s Sunday and near 83 by Monday. A couple more chances for light, mainly high-terrain showers are possible late this week, but overall precipitation amounts look small and the biggest near-term impact will be the wind. Quick Tips
Secure or bring in patio furniture, allow extra commute time, and dress in layers Wednesday morning for a chilly start. Keep an eye on later updates if you have outdoor plans that could be affected by gusty conditions.
