Early Sunday on the edge of daybreak, New Orleans police found a man shot near North Broad and Hope streets. He was rushed to a hospital, where he later died, and the scene quickly shifted into a full-fledged homicide investigation.
What NOPD Says
According to New Orleans police, officers located the male victim at the intersection and called in New Orleans EMS, which transported him for emergency care. He did not survive his injuries at the hospital. Authorities have not released his name or age, and no arrests had been announced as of Sunday, according to FOX 8.
Pattern Of Pre-Dawn Shootings
This killing adds to a worrying pattern of pre-dawn gun violence across the city this month. Just days earlier, there was another fatal early-morning shooting near North Galvez Street on Feb. 18. In that case, investigators canvassed nearby businesses and urged residents to review surveillance and cellphone video to help detectives build a timeline.
How To Help Investigators
Anyone with information about Sunday’s shooting is asked to contact NOPD Homicide detectives at 504-658-5300 or call Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111, per WDSU. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crimestoppers’ website, and investigators say video from doorbell cameras or phones often plays a crucial role in solving homicide cases.
What We Still Do Not Know
Police have not said whether they have identified a suspect or a possible motive. The Orleans Parish Coroner will release the victim’s identity after an autopsy and notification of his family, according to FOX 8. Authorities are expected to provide more details as the investigation moves forward.
