What started as a routine traffic stop in Richmond ended with a local driver in handcuffs after Wayne County deputies say a K-9 helped uncover roughly 2.2 pounds of suspected cocaine in his vehicle. The driver, identified in police reports as Terro Johnson, was arrested at the scene and booked into the Wayne County Jail.
Traffic stop turns into major seizure
Investigators with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit say they had been watching Johnson for several weeks before pulling him over on Feb. 7, after allegedly seeing him speeding and driving erratically. During the stop, a K-9 conducted a free-air sniff around the vehicle, alerted to the presence of narcotics, and deputies say they then recovered about 2.2 pounds of cocaine. Law enforcement estimates the haul would be worth about $90,000 on the street, according to WHIO.
K-9 alert led to an arrest
After the find, deputies say Johnson was taken into custody without incident and transported to the county lockup. He faces a charge of dealing in cocaine or a narcotic drug, as reported by WISH-TV.
Where this fits in Wayne County enforcement
The seizure comes amid a series of narcotics investigations in Richmond and across Wayne County, where sheriff’s detectives and Richmond police have reported multiple busts over the past year involving fentanyl, cocaine and other drugs. Local coverage of a June 2025 drug sweep that led to multiple arrests shows law enforcement continuing to focus on disrupting distribution in the area.
What comes next
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office will review the investigation and move the case through the county court system, with filings and hearing dates appearing in local court records.
