
A man was killed Tuesday in a hit-and-run crash on South Congress Avenue in Austin, according to police. The collision happened in the 7200 block near William Cannon Drive, and the victim died at the scene. Officers shut down the roadway for several hours while investigators worked the area and documented evidence.
As reported by KVUE, Austin police said the man was crossing the 7200 block of South Congress Avenue when he was hit by a driver who did not stay at the scene. He was pronounced dead where he fell and has not yet been identified. The driver has not been named by authorities, and detectives are treating the case as a hit-and-run, remaining on scene for hours to gather clues.
South Congress' Recent Crash History
According to Vision Zero ATX fatality logs, the same stretch of South Congress has already seen multiple deadly collisions in recent years, including, for example, a pedestrian death in the 7200 block on June 26, 2024, and a fatal bicycle crash in the 4100 block on May 20, 2025, thereby underscoring the corridor’s troubling record of serious incidents.

According to the City of Austin Public Information Office, anyone with information is urged to contact the Austin Police Department Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-8111 or, alternatively, submit an anonymous tip to Capital Area Crime Stoppers. KVUE also reported that no suspect has been identified or named in the case as detectives continue to track down video and witness leads.
