What Investigators Say Happened

Chicago police say the victim, a 45-year-old man, was arguing with the van’s driver before he walked in front of the vehicle to head back to his parked car. At that point, the driver accelerated, striking him, trapping him underneath the van and dragging him, before both the front and rear tires ran over him, according to a CPD alert and reporting by FOX 32 Chicago. Officers found the man unresponsive, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say surveillance video recovered by a store employee helped them piece together the sequence of events.

Van Description And How To Help

Police released an image of a tan or white van with likely front-end and undercarriage damage and told reporters they believe the vehicle may have been taken to a repair shop after the crash, per reporting by the Chicago Sun-Times. No arrests have been announced. Detectives say any dash-cam or surveillance video from the 11700 block of South Marshfield could be critical.
