A 911 call about a son swinging a sword on Stock Island ended with both the caller and the man she reported riding together to the Monroe County jail on Monday afternoon, authorities said.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called to a home on 11th Avenue at about 2 p.m. after 51-year-old Jerneen Green reported that her 31-year-old son, Zjiavon Green, was threatening to kill her and others while armed with a katana-style sword. Responding deputies said they found the sword at the property and took Zjiavon into custody in the backyard, according to CBS Miami.
The sheriff's office said Jerneen Green, who had been listed among Monroe County's most-wanted drug offenders, stayed on the line with 911 as the situation unfolded. According to deputies, she reported that her son had been drinking, damaging property and swinging the sword while making threats, an account also reported by CBS Miami.
Public fight listings show Zjiavon Green has competed in amateur MMA events in the Keys, giving him ties to the Key West area outside of the incident itself. Those records are publicly available on sites such as Tapology.
What deputies say happened
According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Zjiavon could be heard on the 911 call making threats toward his mother and toward responding deputies. He later told officers the confrontation started after an argument at the home.
Deputies arrested both Jerneen and Zjiavon at the scene and recovered the katana-style sword, the sheriff's office said. Authorities added that Jerneen was taken into custody on several outstanding warrants that included trafficking cocaine, trafficking fentanyl, trafficking hydrocodone, cocaine sales, and additional possession and paraphernalia counts. Both were transported to the Monroe County jail, according to CBS Miami.
