Monday morning brought more gunfire to Chicago's West Side, where a 25-year-old man was shot and killed on the 4800-block of West Lake Street in West Garfield Park, police said. The shooting was reported at about 8:37 a.m., and the victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
Chicago police told ABC7 Chicago that two suspects in a black SUV pulled up on the man, got out of the vehicle and opened fire, hitting him in the neck and back. Officers said the suspects then jumped back into the SUV and fled eastbound. The victim later died at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to police.
Another Deadly Hit on the Near West Side
The killing adds to a string of recent shootings in and around the near West Side. A Feb. 4 daytime attack on South Springfield that left a 31-year-old man dead was detailed in daytime ambush on South Springfield. Local reporting indicates the corridor has seen repeated attacks in recent weeks, highlighting how daylight violence continues to rattle parts of West Garfield Park.
Residents and community groups have, in response, pushed for more street-level cameras and brighter lighting along certain stretches, according to previous coverage from local outlets.

Area Four detectives are handling the case, and police reiterated that no arrests have been made, according to ABC7 Chicago. Authorities are asking anyone with information, surveillance footage or cellphone video from the area to contact investigators.
