A Monday afternoon crash at a major Grayslake intersection left a 19-year-old man dead and an 86-year-old woman injured, after two vehicles collided and one slammed into a traffic signal pole.
Crash details and victims
Police said the collision happened around 2:15 p.m. at Washington Street and Atkinson Road, when a black Volkswagen traveling east on Washington struck a Toyota SUV that was heading west and turning south onto Atkinson. After the initial impact, the Volkswagen continued and hit a traffic signal pole, according to authorities.
Both drivers were taken to nearby hospitals. The 19-year-old man behind the wheel of the Volkswagen was later pronounced dead at Advocate Condell Medical Center. The 86-year-old driver of the Toyota was treated for injuries described as non-life-threatening, according to CBS News.

Grayslake police said the cause of the crash remains under investigation and did not release further details Monday evening.
