Police checked the young victims at the scene for possible injuries while officers fanned out through nearby streets in the commercial corridor around Riverdale and Winchester roads that locals rely on for in-and-out trips.
What police say
According to WMC Action News 5, officers were called just before 7:30 p.m. Monday to the 6800 block of Winchester Road near Brownbark Drive. Three juveniles were carjacked, the station reports, and checked over for injuries as part of the response. Investigators later located the stolen vehicle.
Crime scene at Riverdale Walgreens
WREG reported that officers converged on the Walgreens in Riverdale later that night, turning the parking lot into an active crime scene as investigators chased down tips and pulled surveillance video. Memphis police told reporters no one was in custody at that point, while detectives kept working the case.
A pattern in the neighborhood
Hickory Hill has seen multiple high-profile incidents involving teens and stolen vehicles in recent months, adding to a sense of unease for residents.
