A cloudy start around 56°F has Austin easing into the day, but it will not stay gloomy for long. Skies are expected to clear with temperatures climbing into the mid-70s this afternoon, helped along by light north winds. Tonight brings just a slight chance of a few spotty showers.
Afternoon And This Week
Sun takes over this afternoon, with highs near 76°F, and the warming trend keeps rolling into Thursday and Friday as temperatures push into the low 80s. Overnight lows will hold in the 50s, so mornings stay on the cool side even as afternoons feel almost balmy. According to the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio, above-average temperatures are likely through next week.
Saturday Storm Chance
Rain showers move back into the picture late Friday night into early Saturday, with forecasters calling for about a 60% chance of rain Friday night and a stronger, roughly 90% chance on Saturday. Gusts could reach around 25 mph during Saturday’s rounds, and a few stronger storms are possible, though model timing and track still leave room for lower rain totals. We covered the developing warm-up in our February sizzle coverage.
Fog And The Morning Commute
Leftover low-level moisture could spin up patchy to locally dense fog early, mainly near and east of I‑35, occasionally trimming visibility for the morning commute and around Austin‑Bergstrom. Conditions should improve by mid-morning as the sun works through the low clouds.
Plan Ahead
Plan on a light jacket for the cool starts and sunscreen for the warm afternoons, and keep a backup option in mind for outdoor plans on Saturday in case storms line up at the wrong time. Check updated forecasts overnight Friday and again Saturday morning for the latest on timing and any watches or warnings.
