The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is promoting 'Take a Friend Snowmobiling Week' from February 7-16, encouraging experienced riders to share the thrill of snowmobiling while supporting local businesses and exploring scenic landscapes. Lt. Jacob Holsclaw, the DNR's off-highway vehicle administrator, said, "Not only is it safer to ride with others, but it’s also more fun," according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources emphasizes safety, reminding riders to remain sober, in control, and respect trail systems, and requires anyone born on or after January 1, 1985, who is at least 12 years old, to have a snowmobile safety certificate. Newcomers are advised to check trail conditions, get a Snowmobile Trail Pass, and consider taking a safety education class before riding.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources provides snowmobile safety tips, including avoiding alcohol or drugs while riding, knowing that ice is never completely safe, and wearing life jackets or float coats for flotation and warmth. Riders should stay within their abilities, watch for traffic, stop and look before crossing roads, follow traffic signs, stay on marked trails, and slow down.
