A quiet evening dog walk in Antelope turned violent last Saturday when a driver slammed into two pedestrians and then sped off, leaving both with serious injuries and a neighborhood on edge. The crash was captured on a home security camera, and neighbors quickly began sharing the footage as investigators went door to door looking for clues about the car and the person behind the wheel.
The surveillance video shows a black sedan signaling for a left turn, rolling through a stop sign and slamming into the pair at the intersection of Palmerson Drive and Falcon View Drive just before sunset on Saturday, according to CBS Sacramento. The impact appears to throw one person into the air before the car takes off without stopping. The California Highway Patrol says both victims were rushed to a hospital with major injuries.
Investigators describe the possible suspect vehicle as a black Toyota Camry with front-end or passenger-side damage. They are asking anyone who recognizes the car or has information about the driver to contact the CHP's North Sacramento office.
Neighbors demand traffic calming
Neighbors say the shocking hit-and-run did not come out of nowhere. Speeding, they argue, has become a regular feature on the block, and they are tired of watching cars tear through their residential streets.
Residents say vehicles have struck driveways and parked cars there before, and several are calling for stronger enforcement or permanent traffic-calming features. One neighbor called this latest crash “the final straw” and said the street needs more patrols or physical changes to keep walkers safe.
Hit-and-runs are an ongoing problem
Hit-and-run crashes that cause injury or death have climbed every year in Sacramento County since 2018, according to data from the California Office of Traffic Safety. Local CAD records list a CHP call labeled “Hit and Run w/Injuries” at Palmerson Drive and Falcon View at about 6:29 PM on the night of the crash, an entry that appears in public dispatch feeds on Magnifeye. Between the home video, dispatch data and news coverage, investigators say they have several leads to work with as they try to track down the fleeing driver.
What officials are asking
Authorities are urging anyone in the area who has home security footage, dashcam recordings or other information from Saturday evening to contact the CHP's North Sacramento office. Neighbors, meanwhile, say they plan to keep pushing officials for both tougher enforcement and engineering changes on Palmerson Drive if the street does not get more attention.
