What started as a quiet Sunday night in Whitehaven ended with one man dead and two others fighting for their lives after a burst of gunfire on West Shelby Drive, according to Memphis police.
Officers were called to the 30 block of West Shelby Drive near Neely, where they found three men suffering from gunshot wounds. Two of the victims were rushed to area hospitals in critical condition, while a third was treated for non-critical injuries.
One of those critically wounded did not survive. As reported by FOX13 Memphis, investigators said witnesses saw suspects speeding away from the scene in a silver Dodge Dart. Police later located an abandoned vehicle on Howard Drive near Stacey Road that matched that description. Anyone with information is urged to call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
Police Investigation Underway
Detectives spent Sunday night canvassing the area, talking to residents and combing the street for clues as they work to identify who pulled the trigger. No arrests have been announced, and the investigation remains very much active.
Neighborhood Context
The deadly burst of violence did not come out of nowhere for Whitehaven residents. Local reporting has tracked multiple shootings in the neighborhood over the past year, with several incidents clustered along Shelby Drive and nearby blocks. Coverage of a similar fatal shooting in the neighborhood last year highlighted a familiar pattern, as police again turned to the public for help.
