Surveillance video just released by Atlanta police captures a fast, chaotic burst of gunfire outside the Crystal Townhomes in southwest Atlanta that left a 37-year-old man wounded while the suspected shooter is still on the run. The exchange unfolded shortly after 1 a.m. on Dec. 27, 2025, and has triggered a fresh push from investigators to figure out exactly who pulled the trigger. Police identified the wounded man as Eduardo Mejia, who was shot in the left arm and treated at a hospital.
Police timeline and initial report
According to a preliminary update from the Atlanta Police Department, officers were called at about 1:17 a.m. on Dec. 27 to 3804 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. SW. When they arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound and rushed him to Grady Memorial Hospital.
Investigators said the victim had been sitting on the steps when two men walked up and a verbal exchange "escalated to gunfire." Detectives stressed that the account is based on early information and that the case is still very much active.
The newly released footage
The surveillance clip shared by police and described by FOX 5 Atlanta shows Mejia trading shots with another man in front of a building before the other man bolts from the scene. FOX 5 reports that Mejia, 37, was hit in the left arm and treated for what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.
So far there have been no arrests, and investigators say the gunman in the footage has not yet been identified.
Investigation status
The Atlanta Police Department says detectives are canvassing the townhome complex looking for additional surveillance and doorbell video, and working to piece together more about how the confrontation started, according to the preliminary release. APD has repeated that the details could shift as new evidence comes in.
Detectives have not provided a detailed description of the suspect beyond what can be seen on the video that has been made public.
How to help
Crime Stoppers Atlanta is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for tips that lead to an arrest and indictment, and tips can be given anonymously. As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, anyone with information can call 404-577-TIPS (8477), send a tip online at StopCrimeAtl.org, or text CSGA.
Police are also asking anyone who was in the area the night of Dec. 27 to check their phones, doorbell cameras, security systems, dashcams, and any other devices for clips that might show the gunman before or after the shooting, then share that footage with investigators.
Neighbors and next steps
The release of the video fits a growing pattern in Atlanta, where detectives are leaning heavily on public tips and private-camera footage to move cases forward. Recent Gunman Cleans Out NW Gas Station coverage showed officers turning to the public and Crime Stoppers rewards in a similar investigation.
Residents say even a short, grainy clip can make a difference, and police are once again urging anyone with footage or information to speak up. The investigation into the Crystal Townhomes shooting remains active, and officials say they will release more details as detectives develop solid leads.
