A quiet Tuesday night on Indianapolis’ west side turned into a crime scene when a woman was found dead in the backyard of a home, drawing a heavy response from police and medics and leaving neighbors with more questions than answers.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the 1300 block of South Lynhurst Drive, where they found a woman in the backyard with injuries consistent with trauma. Homicide detectives responded to the scene, began collecting evidence and went door to door speaking with residents as part of the investigation.
Wayne Township medics pronounced the woman dead at the scene. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will determine the exact manner and cause of death, according to WTHR. Police have not yet released the victim’s name.
IMPD said a person at the scene was detained during the initial response, then later released as detectives continued their work, per WTHR. Investigators have not announced any arrests.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477. Detective Michal Dinnsen, the IMPD contact in comparable investigations, can be reached at [email protected], as reported by WISH.
What Investigators Say
According to IMPD, officers found the woman in the backyard of the home on South Lynhurst Drive with apparent trauma injuries on Tuesday. Homicide detectives took over the case, documenting the scene and gathering potential evidence while speaking with people in the area, per WTHR.
Police are asking anyone who might have security camera footage, who heard or saw anything unusual, or who has other information to come forward. The department has urged residents to share tips directly with detectives rather than post unverified details on social media, which could muddy the investigation.
Neighborhood Context
The stretch of South Lynhurst Drive where the woman was found runs through a busy section of the city’s west side, an area where residents have already raised concerns about traffic and safety. City officials have proposed or scheduled street and infrastructure projects on nearby corridors as part of ongoing work to improve conditions in the neighborhood, WRTV reported.
IMPD says it will release additional details as the coroner finalizes its findings and detectives develop stronger leads. For now, the quiet block on Lynhurst is left waiting for answers about what led to a woman’s death in a backyard so close to home.
