A Saturday evening clash on Chicago’s East Side left a 39-year-old man fighting for his life after he was stabbed in the neck during an altercation, police said. He was rushed in critical condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center, and a 26-year-old man who knew the victim was taken into custody as Area Two detectives opened an investigation.
According to FOX 32 Chicago, the confrontation erupted around 5:51 p.m. in the 10000 block of South Avenue N when the younger man allegedly pulled out a sharp object. The victim was transported to UChicago Medicine and listed in critical condition, the outlet reports, while detectives worked the scene and questioned the 26-year-old in custody.
At the hospital
The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, which operates a Level 1 adult trauma center on the South Side, according to UChicago Medicine. The trauma program treats the region’s most seriously injured patients and has managed a heavy load since adult trauma services launched in 2018.

Chicago’s East Side sits on the Far South Side along the Illinois–Indiana line and is one of the city’s 77 community areas, per Wikipedia.
