A 24-year-old man was found shot to death late Monday inside the hallway of an Englewood apartment building on Chicago's South Side, authorities said. Officers were called to the 800 block of West 66th Street around 11:44 p.m., where they discovered the man in a hallway with gunshot wounds to the face and stomach. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Chicago police told CBS Chicago that a weapon was recovered at the location. No arrests have been made, and Area One detectives are handling the investigation. Police said no additional details were immediately available.
Police Details
Fox 32 Chicago reported officers found the man unresponsive in the hallway with apparent gunshot wounds to the face and stomach and that he was pronounced dead at the scene. The outlet also noted that authorities have not released the victim’s name.
How This Fits Into Citywide Trends
The killing adds another grim chapter for Englewood, a South Side neighborhood that has long absorbed a disproportionate share of Chicago’s gun violence. Citywide, though, preliminary Chicago Police Department figures showed murders dropping by nearly 30% in 2025, the lowest annual total in decades, according to CBS Chicago.
That broader trend offers some relief on paper, but localized flare-ups keep many residents and community groups on edge. The city’s public crime dashboard from the City of Chicago tracks reported incidents neighborhood by neighborhood.
Investigation Ongoing
Fox 32 Chicago reported that police have asked anyone with information to contact Area One detectives as the investigation continues. No arrests have been announced, and the case remains open.
