A Wednesday night shooting inside a Madison apartment has Metro Nashville detectives back in a familiar neighborhood, after a man was found wounded near Rio Vista Drive and rushed to the hospital.
Metro Nashville police say officers responded to reports of gunfire in the Rio Vista Drive area and arrived to find a man inside an apartment with a gunshot wound. Emergency crews took him to a local hospital, where he was reported to have non-life-threatening injuries.
Police response
According to WSMV, MNPD officers were called to the Rio Vista Drive area just after 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Inside one of the apartments, they found the injured man and got him transported for medical care. Officers at the scene told WSMV that his injuries were not life-threatening.
Police say no suspect information has been released. Detectives remained at the complex into the evening, and MNPD reports the investigation is still very much active.
Neighborhood context
The Rio Vista Drive corridor and its surrounding apartment complexes have seen their share of gunfire in recent years. Metro Nashville Police Department records show the area has been tied to multiple violent-crime and homicide investigations.
In February 2024, homicide detectives investigated a deadly shooting at the Charter Village Apartments on Rio Vista Drive, according to a Metro Nashville Police Department press release. That history has kept the Madison stretch on the department's radar.
What officials say
Although no suspect details have been released, MNPD told WSMV that investigators do not believe the public is at risk as they work the case. Officials say they will share updates when more confirmed information is available.
The investigation remains ongoing, and MNPD says additional details will be released as they are developed.
