A juvenile is in critical condition after last night's shooting on Indianapolis' near west side, authorities said, the latest burst of gunfire to shake a neighborhood all too familiar with it.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched shortly after 9 p.m. to the 1100 block of North Tibbs Avenue, where they found the wounded juvenile in an alley nearby. The victim was taken to Eskenazi Hospital and remained in critical condition.
According to WTHR, officers were called around 9 p.m. yesterday to the 1100 block of North Tibbs Avenue near West 12th Street. When they arrived, they located a juvenile male with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. Detectives said the alley where he was found is not believed to be the initial crime scene and are working to determine where the shooting began.
IMPD says juvenile spoke with investigators
IMPD said the juvenile has spoken with investigators but "has not been very cooperative," and detectives believe a disturbance between the juvenile and one or more additional subjects came before the shooting.
Don Weilhammer told FOX59, "don't solve your problems by resorting to any type of violence or gun violence." It is the kind of plea neighbors in this part of the city have been making for years.
How to help investigators
Police are asking anyone with information to contact detectives at the IMPD Homicide Office at (317) 327-3475 or to submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477, per WRTV. The investigation remains active and detectives say they are following leads.
