A late-night assault inside a Pittsburg home left a 53-year-old man dead and a 27-year-old housemate under arrest after police say the suspect briefly took off in a car before officers caught up with him.
Officers were called around 10:45 PM last Saturday to a reported assault at a residence on East Santa Fe Avenue near Solari Street, where they found the victim with serious wounds to his torso, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The outlet reports that the 53-year-old was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.
The Chronicle reports that the suspected attacker, a 27-year-old man who lives at the same address, had left the home before officers arrived. Police located him during an area search, and he was arrested and booked into county custody.

Contra Costa County's Martinez Detention Facility serves as the county's main intake and booking jail. The sheriff's office lists its address as 901 Court Street in Martinez. The facility houses both pre-sentenced and sentenced inmates and provides medical and psychiatric care, according to the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office. The jail processes arrests from law enforcement agencies across the county.
