A live power line and a toppled streetlight pole brought part of downtown Brownsburg to a halt on Tuesday afternoon, forcing police and fire crews to shut down the roadway and warn residents to steer clear of a hazardous scene. Drivers and pedestrians were urged to avoid the area while responders worked, and the closure quickly tangled traffic through the town center.
According to Brownsburg Fire Territory, Brownsburg Police were on scene and Engine 131 was dispatched after a live power line and light pole fell into the roadway. The agency reported that Green Street (State Road 267) was closed between Main Street (U.S. 136) and College Avenue and told residents to stay away because “this will be an extended scene.” No injuries were reported in the post.
Why the location matters
The affected stretch of Green Street (State Road 267) cuts through the middle of Brownsburg’s ongoing downtown redesign, which already tightens traffic through the corridor. As WRTV has reported, parts of Green Street have been limited to northbound traffic between Main and 56th streets during construction while crews work on sidewalks, lanes and utilities. Local businesses say the continuing work has made detours even trickier whenever closures hit.
Where to get updates
Brownsburg Fire Territory's Facebook page is the fastest place for on-the-ground updates, and the agency's post remains the primary source for information about the scene. The Town of Brownsburg's Alert Center and local news outlets are expected to share broader traffic advisories and official notices as they are released; for the original notice see Brownsburg Fire Territory.
