
An early-morning stabbing on the 7400 block of Hendricks Street in Merrillville turned deadly Sunday, leaving one person dead and another critically injured, according to local police. Officers were called to the home at about 2 a.m. after a 911 caller reported that she and her husband were being stabbed. When officers arrived, they saw a suspect exiting the residence with his hands raised, and he was taken into custody at the scene.
As reported by ABC7 Chicago, officers found one victim dead inside the home. The second victim was rushed to Franciscan Health in Crown Point, where hospital staff described the patient as stable but critical. Police said detectives were processing the scene and gathering evidence as the inquiry moved forward.

Merrillville detectives remained at the home into the morning, collecting physical evidence and interviewing potential witnesses. Officials said the case remains very much active, and that they will release additional information only after it is confirmed.
Victim Taken to Crown Point Hospital
The injured victim was transported to Franciscan Health Crown Point, the region's primary acute-care facility with a 24/7 emergency department. Hospital officials did not immediately share any further details about the victim's condition beyond the "stable but critical" status relayed by police.
