An 18-year-old woman was shot and killed early Thursday in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood, in a burst of gunfire that shattered the quiet along a lakeside block just after midnight.
Police said the woman was walking with a group of friends in the 1000 block of West Pratt Boulevard around 1:30 a.m. when a gunman came up on foot and opened fire. She was hit in the head and pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, witnesses told officers the shooter fired at the entire group before running off. No one else was reported injured, and Area 3 detectives were assigned to handle the case.
The killing is the latest in a run of late-night and early morning shootings in and around Rogers Park this winter. Hoodline previously covered a dawn gunfire incident on January 11 that left a 26-year-old man critically wounded, as well as a West Rogers Park car shooting on February 16 that injured two teenagers.
