A 22-year-old man’s late-night drive through Salt Lake City’s Rose Park neighborhood turned violent just after 1 a.m. Monday, when he was shot in the leg while behind the wheel. He managed to drive himself to a nearby gas station, where first responders met him and took him to the hospital. Police say his injuries are not life-threatening.
Police Canvassing Rose Park, Hunting For Video
According to KUTV, Sgt. Greg Wilking with the Salt Lake City Police Department said the man was hit shortly after 1 a.m. on March 23, and detectives currently view the shooting as an isolated incident. Wilking told KUTV that no suspect has been taken into custody. Officers plan to canvas the surrounding streets, asking neighbors and nearby businesses for surveillance and doorbell footage as they work to pinpoint exactly where the shots came from.
Earlier Rose Park Violence Sets The Backdrop
The neighborhood has already been on edge this year. On January 7, a shooting outside a meetinghouse in Rose Park left two people dead and several others wounded. The Salt Lake Tribune reported on that case and the arrests that followed, as investigators continue to dig into what happened there.
How Neighbors Can Help Investigators
Police are asking anyone who lives or works in the area and has dash-cam, doorbell or surveillance footage from the early-morning hours of March 23, or who noticed anything out of place, to contact investigators to help them figure out where the shooting occurred. Per KUTV, officers say they will be going door to door at nearby homes and businesses and collecting available video as part of the active investigation.
