On a routine Thursday afternoon, a Nashville fire engine suddenly plowed into Bradshaw Chiropractic on Old Hickory Boulevard after the firefighter behind the wheel suffered a medical episode, bringing the massive truck to a stop just inches from treatment tables with more than a dozen people inside. Two people suffered minor injuries as staff and patients rushed to get clear, and emergency crews transported the driver to a hospital. Clinic owner Dr. Kevin Bradshaw said staff and another doctor immediately moved to check on patients and the firefighter while crews secured the chaotic scene.
The Nashville Fire Department said the driver of Engine 36 lost control around 4 p.m., clipping a cluster of sheds, knocking out a power pole, hitting a parked car, and finally crashing into Bradshaw Chiropractic near Fields Drive, according to WSMV. The department told the station the firefighter experienced "some kind of medical episode" that caused him to lose control and that he is expected to be okay after being taken to the hospital. Utility crews responded to deal with the downed lines while emergency workers focused on making the building safe.
Owner Says Fire Engine Stopped Just Short of Treatment Table
"You could just hear, it almost sounded like a tornado," Bradshaw recalled, telling WSMV that his receptionist ran through the building shouting for everyone to get out. He said he had just finished treating two young patients when the fire engine stopped "literally like this far from the table," and that he and another provider immediately checked on the people inside and on the firefighter at the wheel. The clinic lists its Old Hickory Boulevard location on its website, Bradshaw Chiropractic, and Bradshaw said he hopes to reopen once repairs are complete.
