A second man has surrendered to authorities in the deadly double shooting near Chickie's & Pete's in South Philadelphia, tightening the focus of an already high-profile homicide case steps from the sports complex. Police say the latest suspect is now facing murder charges tied to the killing of a 23-year-old last fall, while detectives keep digging into what sparked the burst of gunfire along Packer Avenue.
According to NBC10 Philadelphia, investigators say Nasir Brooks turned himself in to detectives on March 3, 2026. He was taken into custody on murder charges in connection with the October 9, 2025 shooting, adding another named suspect to the growing case file that already includes a prior arrest from last fall.
How the Shooting Unfolded
The gunfire erupted just after 6 p.m. on October 9 near Broad Street and Packer Avenue, in the shadow of the South Philly sports complex. Officers arrived to find 23-year-old Hasson Mason suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died. Another 23-year-old man was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in stable condition.
Investigators recovered 21 spent shell casings and a loaded magazine at the scene, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer, which cited police statements. A four-door sedan riddled with at least 15 bullet holes was also found. Surveillance video reportedly shows that car driving roughly half a block, turning onto Broad Street and then colliding with another vehicle as the chaos unfolded.
Earlier Arrest and Charges
The latest surrender follows the November arrest of 22-year-old Abou Keita, who has been charged with murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault and related offenses. As detailed in Charged In South Philly Double Shooting, police say that earlier arrest stemmed from the initial phase of their probe into the October 9 attack near the sports complex.
What Police Want and Next Steps
Despite two suspects now in custody, officials say the homicide investigation remains very much active. They are asking anyone with information to contact Philadelphia Police Homicide Detectives at 215-686-3334 or submit an anonymous tip at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
As reported by NBC10 Philadelphia, detectives have collected physical evidence from the scene and continue to comb through surveillance footage and cellphone video. Prosecutors are expected to review that evidence and set arraignment dates as investigators work remaining leads and try to lock down exactly who did what in the flurry of shots on Packer Avenue.
Legal Note
Both suspects are charged in an active criminal investigation. The charges are allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in court. This story will be updated as arraignment details and additional court filings become available.
