Yesterday, on a rural back road west of Vacaville, it ended in tragedy when a 29-year-old woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash at a country intersection, authorities said. The collision happened around 8 AM at Byrnes Road and Hawkins Road, where emergency responders pronounced the woman dead at the scene and shut down the crossroads to document the wreckage.
According to CBS Sacramento, a silver Toyota sedan heading south on Byrnes Road was broadsided by a silver Dodge pickup traveling east on Hawkins Road. The Toyota driver, a 29-year-old woman, died at the scene. The Dodge driver was taken to a hospital, and officials have not released that person’s condition. The California Highway Patrol told the station the Dodge driver was not under the influence.
What officials said
“Byrnes Road is controlled by a stop sign, but Hawkins Road is not,” the California Highway Patrol told CBS Sacramento. Investigators said they are still working to determine how the two vehicles ended up colliding in the middle of the rural intersection. Authorities have not yet released the names of those involved, pending notification of family members.
Investigation and traffic impacts
The crash kept the intersection closed for several hours while investigators documented the scene and crews cleared debris, causing delays for drivers who rely on the backroads in that part of Solano County. Rural crossings like this one often come with limited sight lines and higher approach speeds, factors that can make a crash more severe when something goes wrong. The CHP says the investigation is ongoing and has not announced any charges.
How to report tips
The CHP Solano-area office is leading the investigation, and anyone who saw the crash or has information is asked to contact the California Highway Patrol. For contact details and information on collision reports, visit the California Highway Patrol.
